Shaldon Sailing Club Spring Newsletter 2020

What a difficult sailing season we had; Lockdown 1, Social Distancing and now we are in Lockdown 2.

Lockdown 1 prevented many races going ahead; but having said that we managed to sail in early August adhering to the social distancing guidelines and managed to sail on 14 Sundays until we stopped at the end of October.

We only lost one Sunday when the weather was too bad but otherwise enjoyed good winds in the harbour and the estuary.

The old sailing club rib had a new lease of life with replacement gear and throttle cables and worked faultlessly throughout the short season.

Not all the regular members returned to Shaldon as the sailing season started so late; the beach did not have its usual compliment of dinghies pulled up at the top.

We sadly lost David Hill in 2020, and he very generously bequeathed a sum of money to aid the sailing club coffers. This more than offset the loss of membership subscriptions that were lower in 2020.

The clubhouse remains closed at present and will only re-open when considered safe as per COVID guidelines.

We are hopeful of a much better season in 2021
