We recognise that the safety, welfare and needs of the child are paramount<br \/>\nand that any child, irrespective of age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex or<br \/>\ngender identity, or social status, has a right to protection from discrimination and<br \/>\nabuse.<br \/>\nShaldon Sailing Club takes all reasonable steps to ensure that appropriate operating<br \/>\nprocedures offer a safe and fun environment to children and adults taking part in its<br \/>\nevents and activities.<br \/>\nFor the purpose of this policy anyone under the age of 18 should be considered as a<br \/>\nchild. All members of the Club are responsible for safeguarding and should be<br \/>\naware of the policy.<br \/>\nThe Club Safeguarding Officer is Mike Clayton Mobile No. 07946408332. Email:<br \/>\nmike.clayton12@btinternet.com<\/p>\n<p>Club Members &amp; Volunteers<br \/>\nAll club members and volunteers whose role brings them into regular contact with<br \/>\nyoung people and vulnerable adults, should be fully aware and should follow the<br \/>\nRYA Good Practice Guidelines. Two of our Committee Members have Enhanced<br \/>\nDBS Certificates (Disclosure &amp; Barring Service) Jenny Barrett &amp; Mike Clayton.<br \/>\nThose members who run the club safety boat should take care when lifting children<br \/>\nfrom their capsized dinghy onto the safety boat and if possible utilise the safety<br \/>\nladder rather than holding, lifting or pulling them into a safe environment. In an<br \/>\nemergency of having to manually handle a child, exact verbal explanations should be<br \/>\ngiven to the child as to how this will be achieved.<br \/>\nIf members are in the Club House with a child or vulnerable adult there should be at<br \/>\nleast two adults available at all times.<br \/>\nThe club will seek consent from parents \/carers before taking photos or videos of a<br \/>\nchild at any event run by the club, and written consent if going to be published. In<br \/>\nthe event of the club publishing images of children, no identifying information other<br \/>\nthan names will be included. Any concerns about inappropriate or intrusive<br \/>\nphotography or the inappropriate use of images should be reported to the<br \/>\nSafeguarding Officer or a Committee Member.<br \/>\nConcerns<br \/>\nAnyone who is concerned about a young members, vulnerable adults or participants<br \/>\nwelfare, either outside the sport or within the Club should inform the Safeguarding<br \/>\nOfficer or a Committee Member immediately, in strict confidence.
