SHALDON SAILING CLUB \u2013 SAFEGUARDING & CHILD PROTECTION POLICY
\nShaldon Sailing Club is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
\ntaking part in its activities from physical, sexual or emotional harm, neglect or
\nbullying. We recognise that the safety, welfare and needs of the child are paramount
\nand that any child, irrespective of age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex or
\ngender identity, or social status, has a right to protection from discrimination and
\nabuse.
\nShaldon Sailing Club takes all reasonable steps to ensure that appropriate operating
\nprocedures offer a safe and fun environment to children and adults taking part in its
\nevents and activities.
\nFor the purpose of this policy anyone under the age of 18 should be considered as a
\nchild. All members of the Club are responsible for safeguarding and should be
\naware of the policy.

Club Members & Volunteers
\nAll club members and volunteers whose role brings them into regular contact with
\nyoung people and vulnerable adults, should be fully aware and should follow the
\nRYA Good Practice Guidelines. Two of our Committee Members have Enhanced
\nDBS Certificates (Disclosure & Barring Service) Jenny Barrett & Mike Clayton.
\nThose members who run the club safety boat should take care when lifting children
\nfrom their capsized dinghy onto the safety boat and if possible utilise the safety
\nladder rather than holding, lifting or pulling them into a safe environment. In an
\nemergency of having to manually handle a child, exact verbal explanations should be
\ngiven to the child as to how this will be achieved.
\nIf members are in the Club House with a child or vulnerable adult there should be at
\nleast two adults available at all times.
\nThe club will seek consent from parents \/carers before taking photos or videos of a
\nchild at any event run by the club, and written consent if going to be published. In
\nthe event of the club publishing images of children, no identifying information other
\nthan names will be included. Any concerns about inappropriate or intrusive
\nphotography or the inappropriate use of images should be reported to the
\nSafeguarding Officer or a Committee Member.
\nConcerns
\nAnyone who is concerned about a young members, vulnerable adults or participants
\nwelfare, either outside the sport or within the Club should inform the Safeguarding
\nOfficer or a Committee Member immediately, in strict confidence. The Club
