2023 News update

Shaldon Sailing Club 2023 News update

Welcome all to the new 2023 sailing season. This year promises to be very unique as it is the 200th year that the club has been in existence. There will be Heritage celebrations in June (see later) and the club now has a Soling 8 metre Olympic sailboat to enter local races and regattas.
The clubhouse has 2 rowing machines and is used by local organisations in the village.

The early part of last year was marked by the sudden death of the Commadore (Jon Barret) and is sorely missed. His laser is still sailing in club races on Sundays in the harbour.

The Heritage weekend will be from Fri 9th to Sun 11th June and will comprise of 4 dinghy races and a BBQ throughout the weekend. On Saturday evening the Motor Vessel “Pride of Exmouth” will cruise the local area with up to 200 people on board. There will be 3 different entertainment acts and promises to provide lots of fun. Old and heritage sailboats have been invited to take part in the races.

Club members who are suitably qualified (1) can take the Soling sailboat out, it is moored on the water in the summer ready for sailing and easy access from the beach.
The soling is ideal for people who do not have much sailing experience as it is very stable and predictable; it handles like a big dinghy. (This boat won the 2022 Torquay regatta in their class)

Shaldon Sailing Club is looking to increase its membership and has sailing dinghies available for those without their own dinghies to use. For a small donation these can be taken out.
